Berlin’s Games Industry, We Love You!
Wednesday, May 10th
Luckily for Klang, Berlin is not only known for its rich history and vibrant culture but it’s also become a major hub for the games industry! With over 200 game development studios in the city, Berlin has firmly established itself as a leading center for game development and innovation in Germany. Let’s take a little look at what makes Berlin such an amazing place for game development.
One of the reasons for the success of Berlin’s games industry is the city’s vibrant and diverse creative community. As we’ve said before, Berlin is packed full of so many different beautiful people, who all bring their own unique perspectives, cultures, and ideas to the city. With a mix of artists, designers, programmers, and entrepreneurs, there’s no shortage of talent and creativity. Plus, Berlin’s affordable living costs, thriving startup ecosystem, and high quality of life make it an attractive place for game developers to live and work.
Another reason for Berlin’s success is its focus on innovation and experimentation. Many of the city’s game studios are known for pushing the boundaries of game design and exploring new gameplay mechanics (a big reason that Berlin is the perfect place for developing a game like SEED!). This culture of experimentation has led to the creation of many unique and innovative games that have garnered international attention and critical acclaim.
Some successful and well-known game studios in Berlin Include YAGER Development, Wooga, King, and Stratosphere Games. YAGER Development is best known for its award-winning game Spec Ops: The Line, while Wooga and King are both leading developers in the mobile gaming market. In fact, you probably know King’s successful game Candy Crush!
However, it’s not just larger studios that dominate the gaming scene! Berlin is also home to a vibrant indie game development scene. Many smaller studios (like Klang!) and solo developers have made a name for themselves with their unique and innovative games. Some notable indie game studios include Jo-Mei and Maschinen-Mensch.
The Berlin government and local community have also been supportive of the video games industry. The city offers a range of funding opportunities and resources for game developers, including grants, funding, and equity financing. One key player in this area is games.net Berlin Europe, a business network that supports the game development industry in Berlin by facilitating collaborations, providing resources, and organizing events. Another is medianet Berlin Brandenburg, a network that promotes media innovation and supports media-related businesses in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

We are happy to report that the Berlin games industry is a thriving and innovative community that has made a significant impact on the global gaming scene. With its focus on experimentation, creativity, and innovation, the industry shows no signs of slowing down. We can’t imagine a better city for Klang, and luckily we don’t have to!
