A Peek into Our Most Recent Play Session!
Wednesday, October 2nd
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, community feedback is vital for the development of SEED! In fact, we believe that it’s one of the most important parts of game development! This is the reason that we host regular play sessions. These sessions give our players an early look at SEED while it's still in development, allowing them to explore the world of Avesta, report bugs, and provide invaluable feedback. Each play session brings us one step closer to realizing SEED's full potential, and in this post, we're excited to share what some of our team members had to say about the most recent one!
Alice - Community Manager
From A Community Manager's perspective, how was this last play session?
I think the last play session was the smoothest one that we’ve had yet! Plus, from a community perspective, our players were really positive and there was a lot more role-play that we saw.
What were some of the highlights from the community?
I was blown away by how creative some of the players got and the kinds of things that they built. For example, one player had a very small home but managed to decorate it so thoughtfully that they transformed the space into the coziest little house. We had lots of different businesses pop up, and we saw our very first Avestan diner built, which was fun. It was incredible to see how much collaboration was happening between players. They communicated extensively, both in-game and on Discord, which led to some great teamwork.
How is our community special and how does that show?
I think one of the most unique things about our community is how supportive it is. Our players are supportive of Klangers and our development journey, as well as each other. For example, whenever someone new joins the discord or SEED, our community members immediately jump in and offer help or give advice.
Marijn - Staff Engineer
From an Engineer’s perspective, how was this last play session?
We were really well prepared for this last play session. Before the session, we were already running simulation tests with similar numbers to what we expected in our actual play sessions. For example, we ran a test with 3,000 Seedlings! These tests allowed us to troubleshoot problems before the play session was live. This meant that, although we still had some small hiccups and bugs, no major issues arose.
How do you feel like your team has evolved over the play sessions?
As a team, we were doing well already, but I think we’ve matured a lot when it comes to stability. We’re also better at handling live issues and fixing problems beforehand. Running CCU tests and reviewing the metrics together with producers has helped us prioritize what needs to be done. Now we’ve improved, running tests in safer environments rather than when the stakes are high. This means that We can fail safely and succeed when it counts.
Morgane - UX Researcher
From a User Researcher’s perspective, how was this last play session?
During the session, we measured player engagement over time, which requires a lot of organization. I’m happy to report that our team was much more prepared and organized for this recent play session and it paid off! Because of this, we were more collaborative with other teams and we were able to be more precise in our methods and the research that we did.
What kind of feedback did we receive from our players?
Our biggest piece of feedback from our returning players was that they saw a lot of improvement! This partly means they noticed that their feedback was actually implemented in the game. We got a lot of comments of players who were happy to see that feedback they gave in previous play sessions was actually incorporated. For our new players, they talked a lot about the uniqueness of SEED. A lot of them said that the originality of the concept is what really got them excited.
Why is receiving and incorporating player feedback important?
Firstly, it is important that players feel heard. Secondly, although we might know how to build a great feature or a great game, we are not our players. This is why it is important to collect and implement player feedback. By doing this we are letting the players know that their opinions matter and at the same time we are building a better game.
