Collaboration And Klang (A Love Story)

Wednesday, March 29th

Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do here at Klang. We believe that working together as a team is essential for creating both a peaceful, inspirational, and productive work environment, as well as an amazing game! In this blog post, we’ll explore what collaboration means to us and why it is important.

For us, a crucial part of collaboration is listening to other people’s perspectives and going out of the way to find common ground. When we actively seek out different perspectives, we are exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking that we may not have considered before. We find this invaluable to game development because more input leads to a stronger and wider-reaching more inclusive game. Additionally, finding common understanding can lead to more empathy and more productive and harmonious work relationships, two things we strive for at Klang! This means that we are more easily able to work through disagreements and find solutions when conflict arises. To make sure that everyone’s opinions are heard, we encourage getting comfortable with giving and receiving feedback. Through we can both listen and be heard by others.

Another element of collaboration that we value at Klang is clear and respectful communication. Clear communication ensures that messages are understood correctly, which reduces the chances of misunderstandings. Respectful communication helps foster positive relationships because it demonstrates consideration and understanding toward others. Together, they both build trust and promote collaboration! Additionally, clear and respectful communication is especially important when dealing with sensitive and complex topics. This is because it helps to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that concerns are addressed in a considerate way. This kind of communication ties back into feedback as well, because it cultivates open and clear communication. There is no need for passive aggressiveness or talking about someone behind their back if there is a straightforward and easy way to express oneself openly.

The last component of collaboration that we want to touch on is being proactive in supporting each other. We think this is a less discussed topic, but a very important one nonetheless. We’ve all been there: asking for support or help from a co-worker and getting met with a “can someone else help you?” or an “I don’t have time for this right now”. Not only does this negatively impact productivity and creativity, but it also cultivates feelings of dislike and tension. We have found that when Klangers feel supported by each other, they are more likely to feel motivated and engaged in their work, as well as connected to each other. It’s a win-win situation! At Klang, being proactive in support involves regular check-ins where managers and co-workers alike can touch base and see how they are feeling, as well as how they can support each other.

It is through things like finding common ground, clear and respectful communication, and proactively supporting each other, that make it possible for Klangers to dive deep into the collaborative creative process. Without these tools and practices, we wouldn’t be the strong and resilient team that we are today!
