Emir’s Three Year Anniversary

January 21st, 2022

Where does the time go, huh? It’s been three years since the solid-as-a-rock presence of Emir entered Klang’s engineering ranks! A software engineer for what he claims has been ‘a long time’, he always was tinkering with games and that’s part of how he ended up at Klang. He pretends he would prefer to be on a beach drinking a cold beer rather than slogging away on the many problems he’s always solving at Klang, but we know otherwise!

Emir is an invaluable member of Klang, and has contributed to many areas of SEED, working on features teams. We caught up with him to ask for the true history of Emir the Engineer and just what he’s most looking forward to in the future. Thanks Emir!

How did you end up at Klang? Please give me a brief history of your career and what first got you into games.

Well, I was a software engineer for a long time but since I learned to program I was hacking on some kind of games in my spare time. Around 2014. I met a couple of guys back at my home town Sarajevo with crazy ideas and an indie game studio, so I guess there was no other choice than to quit my "regular" job and get into game development. It has been a hell of a ride since then. After that I somehow landed in Berlin at BigPoint studios working on a unfortunately unreleased Game of Thrones MMO. After that I got out of game development for a short period of time but here I am back at Klang doing it all over again.

Do you remember your first day at Klang? Who did you meet and how did it go?

I don’t really remember my first day at Klang except there was a really nice homey feel to the whole office and our CTO Oddur helping me in setting up my workstation, which was a different experience than in other studios and gives you an impression of Klang and how everybody was really nice. I have a better recollection the first time I walked into the office for my interview. Meeting Mundi in the kitchen and Roman and Martin trying to be very professional and asking serious questions during the interview, but I think they actually did not know what they were doing. Just joking a big shout out to both of them.

Who are you working most closely with?

Currently I am working as a part of our DevX team so most of my days I am chatting with Sasha, Uli and Rainer whenever he hops back in our stand ups.

Is there anything in particular you're looking forward to in the future?

Yes, I am really looking forward to SEED going live, because this game has so much potential and could change the way we look and play MMOs, so I am very excited about being a part of Klang going forward.
